New York City ::: Dinner with Ajay Nair

Announcing a new Dinner Series (co-sponsored with Columbia) . . .
You're invited!

Columbia's "Dinner with Professor X" series brings together a renowned professor in Asian/Asian American studies with a small group of alumni for a casual, conversational dinner. The informal setting encourages alumni to talk, network, learn, and discuss topics with the professor as well as with each other.

Penn alumni are invited to attend April's dinner, which will feature Professor Ajay Nair. Professor Nair was formerly Director of PAACH (Penn's Pan-Asian American Community House) and Assistant Director of ASAM (Asian American Studies Program). He is currently Columbia's Associate Dean of Student Affairs/Multicultural Affairs. A formal bio is forthcoming, but in the meantime please see this link to the Penn Current for more information about Professor Nair: http://www.upenn.edu/pennnews/current/2003/011603/staff.html

The dinner will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 6:00pm at a restaurant in midtown (to be determined). Attendees will be responsible for the cost of their own meal (typically $25-$35 which includes gratuity).

Five to six Penn alumni will be chosen to attend dinner with Professor Ajay Nair. The dinner is first-come, first-served, so please hurry and RSVP to Pauline Lem!

Date:
April 26 (Saturday)
Time:  6:00pm
Event: Alumni Dinner with Professor Nair

UPAAN and PennNYC are thrilled to co-sponsor a reception and exhibition tour of the Shinjo Ito exhibit at the Milk Gallery for Penn alumni. Shinjo Ito is recognized as one of the most important Buddhist practitioners of the 20th century. Shinjo Ito believed that all people had the potential to cultivate the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha's enlightenment, and tried to make this vision a reality by developing Shinnyo-en, a new school of Buddhism that supported the spiritual practices of people with contemporary lifestyles regardless of age, gender, nationality or religious background. Shinjo's art is a reflection of his progressive philosophy, combining elements of traditional Buddhist art with a fresh, modern approach. The reception will be from 6:30-7:15 to be followed promptly by the exhibition tour led by Alumnus Tony Giannakoulias, Senior Editor of English Resources & Materials for the Exhibit.
