About UPAAN

The University of Pennsylvania Asian Alumni Network (UPAAN) is a volunteer-run alumni organization that provides a vehicle for University of Pennsylvania alumni to promote the civic participation, leadership and service of Asian Americans and Asians at Penn and in the broader society.

Our mission is to develop and nurture a global network to advance the personal and professional interests of Asian and Asian American alumni of the University. This year our initiatives include:

  • Network Development
There is an incredible amount of talent and experience in the Penn alumni community; unfortunately, much of it is unconnected and its potential unused. UPAAN is striving towards strengthening our network by creating more meaningful and valuable connections between alumni through our programming and news initiatives. We are also working towards building an online portal that will let us connect alumni and students who were involved in the same organizations and events while at Penn.
  • Campus Collaboration
We are also developing its relationship with the Pan-Asian American Community House and student groups on campus to better find opportunities for alumni to collaborate, interact, and stay up-to-date with the student body.
  • Public Service Internship Fund
With the help of VPUL and Alumni Relations, we have finally established a new internship fund with the goal of supporting students interested in exploring careers in public service. In particular, this fund provides financial support to students with summer internships in non-profit community interest fields who are in need, since many of these internships often do not pay. We are working towards growing this fund this year so we can fully operate in the next calendar year and give our support to these students.
  • Chapter & Member Support
UPAAN National is looking to reevaluate ways to provide more effective support for our chapters and benefits for our members. We are here to serve the alumni community’s best interests, and would love to hear feedback from you on what we can do to make your experience as Penn alumni better.

Resources

  • Young Alumni Transition Guide to NYC
The Young Penn Asian Alumni Network (yPAAN) has put together a fantastic resource on living in New York, transitioning to city life, and things to do! Find it on yPAAN’s site here: http://ypaan.org/resources.
  • UPAAN Online [Coming soon!]
UPAAN Online is a web application designed and built in response to an UPAAN initiative to connect alumni and students who were involved in the same organizations and events at and after Penn. We plan on officially launching the service this summer!

Donate

  • UPAAN Future Fund
Donate to the UPAAN Future Fund to benefit current APA students at UPenn.
  • UPAAN Public Service Internship Fund
We are happy to announce that after a long six months of working with Alumni Relations and the Office of the Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL), we have opened the internship fund with the support of the University. The mission of the fund is to provide financial support and incentive for APA students to pursue public service internships and careers, which will be managed through the Pan Asian American Community House (PAACH).

If you would like to donate to the cause: the University will be adding the fund to the Penn Giving page in the near future, but until then, please send checks with the following information:
